Leagues 2006

It’s hard to believe that by the time you get to read this we’ll be into the 2007 Season, which began 16th October and will complete 14th October 2007. Indeed, weather permitting, one Miniglider event should already have happened.

Before we get into the League Tables, I’d like, on behalf of the committee and competitors, to thank all the CD’s for their hard work in running the events. As competitors, we turn up on the day, enjoy or otherwise our flying and hopefully take home a pot. For the CD and his team there’s a lot of organisation beforehand, persuading fellow club members to give over their site, taking entries, matrixing and setting out fields. Without these guys there wouldn’t be a league. So it’s encouraging to see new events such as the Aldershot Open coming on to the calendar. Shame their second comp fell foul of the rather odd summer conditions we’re experiencing. Bring on climate change I say, wall to wall sunshine April till October would be good. Thanks CD’s.

And so to the 2006 Leagues. These tables are based on events from October 2006 concluding 15th October this year. Assuming nobody finds anything drastically wrong, my new database seems to be behaving itself, we’ll be contacting the lucky trophy winners to come and collect their silverware at the AGM. If by any chance you can’t make it perhaps you could let Martin Godden or myself know, as all those pauses in proceedings at the prize giving rather detracts from the pleasure of congratulating our worthy winners.

It’s sad to see we no longer have a Junior in our ranks. Still I know there are members out there with kids and maybe there are even some clubs with aspiring youngsters who just need a bit of mentoring. It’s not like in the bad old days when we bought our fit young things along because we needed a decent tow man! Let’s get them flying.

Congratulations to all the prize winners. There’s still loads of members who don’t get out and compete. Why not give it a go in 2007? Nothing beats the thrill of competition.

Look forward to meeting up with you at the AGM and seeing what hardware you’re buying for the new season.

Graham
